On a personal note my late aunt, born 1912 died 2008, kept meticulous journals. Her first entry 31 August 1939 was after attending the 1939 NY Worlds Fair.... a clear fair day....the world was at peace...the next day, WAR! I often engaged her in discussions of politics and culture....she was a keen observer of the times.
