This coincides with the prophecy of St. Malachy, that states the last 'pope' will see the ruin of the church and the destruction of Rome.

I've seen almost no discussion about this 'pope' being a Jesuit. After the Society of Jesus was disbanded and subsequently reformed, all members were required to take a 4th vow of obedience to the pope. I worked @ St. Louis U for many years and all the Jesuits that spoke anything about this said a Jesuit would never be pope because of this.

yeah, I remember when Bergoglio was elected--several commentators wondered how he could accept the office. I don't know enough about the Jesuit order's rule, but assumed the office is incompatible with their vows. But it's possible Benedict could have relieved him of that vow prior to the election. So much happens out of sight in the Vatican.

Yes, much happens out of sight with the Jesuits too. Interestingly enough, the order was disbanded in 1773 because most of the countries in Europe were expelling the order for meddling in the politics of those countries.
