Spiritual warfare demands spiritual weapons. Luckily, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, gave us a simple formula for battling demons:
This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29)
You might be asking, “what kind of demons can be driven out only by prayer and fasting?” Well, the kind that drove the media to falsely declare Kyle Rittenhouse a white supremecist and mass murderer, for one. The kind that drive COVID hysteria for another. The kind that influence people to embrace dark rituals like abortion and transgenderism. The demons who give rioters knowledge of the unknowable. The demons who influenced the Tower of Babel and its modern equivalent, the Great Reset.
We are not fighting men; we are fighting demons. And human weapons can’t kill spirits, evil or otherwise. Demons are impervious to human opposition. In fact, the people doing terrible things all believe they need no help against demons. They really believe their impulses to riot, to burn, to kill, to abort, to conquer and enslave humanity are their own brilliant ideas. They don’t even realize (most of them) that they are simply tools of dark spirits.
They are. And, to defeat them, we must make ourselves tools of the angels. And that requires fasting and prayer.
The Catholic Church teaches fasting as one full meal and two smaller meals that do not add up to a normal meal. Maybe that’s good enough in normal times, but these times are far from normal. The demons have never held such sway as they do right now.
We need Biblical-quality fasting, and I’m going to share with a simple formula: Fast Fridays.
Just Don’t Eat on Fast Friday #
I read a lot of articles and studies about fasting. I’ve learned a lot from them, and I’ve shared quite a bit of the information on fasting over the years. Fasting is safe and effective for just about everyone without Type I (juvenile) diabetes. (If you’re less than 10% body fat, you might want to do some research before fasting, even for 36 hours.) I’ve pointed out that most doctors know little to nothing about fasting or diet in general—they simply parrot whatever the FDA and CDC publish on behalf of food and pharmaceutical corporations. I won’t fight that battle here. Instead, I’ll do what most of those articles don’t do. I’ll tell you how to fast. Ready?
Step 1: Don’t Eat.
That’s it. Fasting is what you’re doing whenever you’re not eating. If you finished breakfast five minutes ago, you’ve been fasting for five minutes.
What I do is this: I don’t consume any calories from about 8:00 p.m. Thursday until about 9:00 or 10:00 Saturday morning. It’s easy. Just drink water and black coffee. Take your vitamins and non-caloric supplements.
And here’s the other trick: use the extra time normally spent preparing meals, eating, and cleaning up the kitchen with prayer or spiritual reading. Read the Gospels. Read the Psalms. Read the books of Daniel or 2 Maccabees. Read Paul’s letter to the Ephesians to get fired up for spiritual warfare.
It’s easy. You’ll become a warrior for Christ doing pitched battle against the demons destroying souls, families, and nations.
Your Medal: Stronger Mind, Body, and Soul #
Fasting has amazing physical benefits that nothing else provides. Working out, especially heavy lifting and walking, do great things for your body, but fasting does things weight lifting cannot.
When you fast, your body’s immune system rebuilds itself. Your body destroys weak and deranged cells with new ones built, not by cell-division but from stem cells, as MIT reports here
This age-related loss of stem cell function can be reversed by a 24-hour fast, according to a new study from MIT biologists. The researchers found that fasting dramatically improves stem cells’ ability to regenerate, in both aged and young mice.
To accelerate the replacement of those old, weak or diseased cells, your body pumps out human growth hormone, the stuff body builders pay rogue doctors thousands of dollars to inject into them, according to Dr. Brett Scher, MD.
But fasting also makes you mentally stronger. According to WebMD.com, fasting strengthens mind in three ways:
Healing and Rejuvenation
If you think you cannot possibly skip a meal, you’re conceding that you are slave to food. Is pizza really more powerful than you?
Nonsense. You don’t want to be a slave to food. You want to master your own body and your own mind. And you can. Just don’t eat. Take command of your body, your urges, and the food industry by not eating for one day a week. You can do it, and you know you can.
By exerting dominion over your animal urge to eat, you give primacy to your soul. Your soul is where the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Ghost—reside. It should have primacy over mere food. Your soul’s fitness should take primacy over your body.
Fasting is the easiest and quickest way to put your soul first.
This Is War; We’re On the Winning Side #
We know how this story ends: the good guys win. Fasting cannot affect that finality. But prayer and fasting can help us, the living, reclaim some territory and souls from the demons.
I’m hoping to build an army of fasters. We can meet online every Friday night at 8:00 p.m., the 24-hour mark of our weekly fasts. We can compare notes and share tactics for getting through. Because there will be tough moments that test you.
Tonight, for example, I really, really, really wanted to meet my friends for drinks to celebrate justice’s victory over lies, defamation, and race-hatred in the Kyle Rittenhouse case. My friends were going out, but I stayed home. I’m not done praying and fasting. On nights like tonight, I’d like to meet with others who are fasting and praying. Just a few minutes online to compare notes.
I also want Fast Fridays to grow. Homes where prayer and fasting are going are homes the demons will pass over. If every home in America had at least one person praying and fasting every Friday, the devil would be left out in the cold. Nowhere to go. No one to talk to. No one to tempt.
We can take back our homes, our cities, our states, our country, and our world only by prayer and fasting to drive out the pernicious demons afflicting us. I ask you to join me. For 36 hours each week, from 8:00 p.m. Thursday to 8:00 a.m. Saturday, deprive your body and your passions of calories. Your body, soul, and mind will grow stronger, and the demons will move on to easier targets.
Ad majorem Dei gloriam
P.S. On this 36-hour fast, you’re asleep for 16 hours (Thursday night and Friday night). That means you only have to avoid eating for 20 hours. And the longest waking stretch without food is only about 16 hours. You can go 16 hours without food, can’t you? I bet you can.
