We Are Witnessing a Celestial Battle on the Ground
One side insists on murdering and castrating children, and it calls the rest of us "monsters"
This blog has long insisted that politics is a proxy war and winning political battles means little if not strategically connected to the real conflict. That conflict is much older than humanity. It predates time itself.
The final conflict is Biblical, and we know how it ends. The Woman will crush the serpent’s head under her immaculate heel because her Son has conquered death.
Taylor Marshall pointed out a symbol of this epic war last night outside the Supreme Court:
I responded: “Many graces flow to those who persevere in prayer while under demonic assault. Keep it up!”
If we recognize our powerlessness in this battle and allow God to simply work through us, we win. These Catholic students who persevered in prayer unleashed the power of heaven. They might have felt overwhelmed by the evil surrounding them, but Our Lady and St. Michael were there in their midst inflicting great pain on the demons—the demons that hold sway over the pro-abortion fanatics.
I was struck by contrast in social media comments last night. While the pro-abortion side called for murder, assault, threats, and destruction, the pro-life side was calling for prayer and fasting, penance, alms-giving, and patience.
Last week, I wrote:
I’m probably getting ahead of myself, but is it possible that Lent and Easter have somehow sapped the strength from the demons who have had their way with humanity for these last loathesome two years? Sure, my faith in humanity is zero on the Kelvin scale, but everything is possible with God.
Since then, Musk has, indeed, won the approval of Twitter’s board to buy the company and take it private. We’ve witnessed the left’s insane and telling reaction to that. The Biden administration announced a Ministry of Truth to police our thoughts and words. MSNBC and CNN declared the government censor speech.
We are beginning to see abortion riots. One such event took place in Los Angeles last night. Los Angeles, California, where Roe v. Wade had no effect because the legislature has codified abortion as the supreme state sacrament to its demon overlords. But any excuse to riot.
I probably don’t need to remind of the other signs of societal decay:
We are in a proxy war against Russia, using Ukrainians as cannon fodder.
North Korea is threatening a preemptive nuclear attack and last night tossed a missile toward South Korea.
Inflation is at a 40-year high, the economy is contracting (recession), and the trade deficit blew through the roof last month.
4.5 million Americans left the workforce in March, exacerbating the biggest labor shortage since World War II.
Joe Biden, a former Senator from Delaware, believes Delaware has never produced a Senator.
All that’s just off the top of my head. I didn’t try to think of all the terrible things happening right now. The list is too long to fit in your inbox.
Now, you might be thinking, “Hennessy, if demons are in retreat, why is the world going to hell in a hand basket?” And that is what I want to talk about.
Exorcists, who regularly talk to demons, tell us that demonic activity is our path to virtue. Without temptation, obsession, and oppression from demons, we would grow spiritually and morally fat and lazy. Demons keep us on our toes.
When we successfully fight off demons, we are the instruments of God’s wrath. When we fall to temptation, the Heavenly Host is there to pick us up and get us back on the right path—so long as we are humble enough to take their hand.
Fr. Chad Ripperger spoke about this two years ago in a remarkable sermon on spiritual warfare. Fr. Ripperger is probably the most active exorcist in the United States today. He has written fabulous books on the subject, including my favorite: Deliverance Prayers: for use by the laity. (I have two paperback copies and the Kindle edition.)
In that sermon, Fr. Ripperger explained how demonic activity is our friend. (Watch or read the transcript of the sermon here.)
We tend to think of demons as the things that are detracting against our sanctification; that’s only true when we give in to them, but when we fight them and work against them, they actually become the instruments of our purification, because we have to deny ourselves–we have to work against them–we have to build virtue contrary to that. The demons are constantly trying to get us to commit sins–to become vicious as we have vices, so that we become weak, and then, that way, it’s easier to combat us. In that process, they want to set up an abusive relationship with us. But if we combat them, then what happens is we begin to develop virtue.
So all this rot that seems to be gaining ground—all this demonic-inspired sin and horror—is a call to develop virtue.
