The American Food Shortage Will Arrive Sooner Than Expected
I don't want to say it's a conspiracy, but if it's not, it's the weirdest string of coincidences in US history
Here are the headlines as captured by Dr. Benjamin Braddock on Twitter:
Rio Fresh's onion warehouse damaged in fire: April 1, 2022
7 Injured in Explosion as Fire Engulfs Food Plant; Smoke Visible for Miles: 2/22/22 AT 10:01 PM EST
FIRE DESTROYS AZURE STANDARD HEADQUARTER FACILITY No injuries. Cause under investigation. DUFUR, OREGON - APRIL 19, 2022:
Plane crashes into Idaho potato and food processing plant, killing the pilot, cops say: APRIL 14, 2022 1:14 PM
50,000 lb of food destroyed after fire ripped through Maricopa Food Pantry: Mar. 29, 2022
Walmart Food Warehouse Lost in Blaze: March 16, 2022
And the fires that were not reported except by citizen journalists:
And in Taiwan:
On top of that, Union Pacific Railroad is limiting the amount of fertilizer that can be shipped to farm states.
And poultry is dying in record numbers.
Oh, wait. There’s more!
And MORE!
By my count, that’s 24 major food processing plants or warehouses destroyed by fire, explosion, or plane crash in a little over two months. Maybe an actuary can tell us if this normal behavior for food processing plants. Maybe we lose two dozen plants every February, March, and April due to some quirk in the food processing cycle.
Or, maybe, it’s sheer coincidence. A freak chance.
Or, could it be planned?
Unless the US is producing more than 24 new food processing plants every 2.5 months, less food will get to market in the coming months. And, because of drought in Texas, fertilizer limits on Union Pacific, and skyrocketing fertilizer costs, farmers will plant less food this year than in past years. Corn could be considered a delicacy by fall.
And what will the real food eat? How will we feed cows, hogs, and the dwindling populations of chicken and turkeys?
But there’s more to consider. The Biden Administration just unleashed the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, not to help Americans, but to ship that oil to Europe. With the UN expecting massive food shortages in parts of Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, how much of our food will Biden send to feed the world?
Real food inflation since Biden took office is already 50 percent. Food prices could easily double or triple by 2023.
Other than stockpiling long-storage food, planting a garden, raising chickens (if you can), I don’t really have much in the way of solutions to offer. Whether it is God or government that brought about the food shortage, it sure as hell wasn’t you or me. But will be the victims.
I write this so you can prepare. If you have the resources, maybe you can investigate a root cause of all these food calamities. (I don’t think it’s coincidence.) Or offer your own suggestions in the comments.
20+ years ago we had opportunity to buy 20 acres in a rural county for a ridiculously low price. Since then we learned how to raise chickens and other livestock, grow vegetables, can foods etc. As an added bonus we have neighbors who are salt of the earth and willingly barter skills for mutual benefit. Little did we know that this prepared us for these times. Grateful.
Will arrive? More like has arrived. Everywhere we go, grocery stores and restaurants have missing items, and the prices are way higher.
