"Don't Look Up" Say the Covidians
New DiCaprio movie a perfect spoof of the Covid public health disaster
I’m sure the makers of a new movie, Don’t Look Up, meant the story as a metaphor for global warming. But viewers are more likely to recognize in its characters and plot the leading fraudsters of the Covid tyranny.
The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchette, and Tyler Perry. Lawrence plays Kate, a doctoral candidate in astronomy who discovers a new comet. Her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy (played by DiCaprio), does the math and discovers the comet will strike earth in a little over six months.
Dr. Mindy and Kate are summoned to the White House to brief President Orlean (Streep), a narcissistic poll-watcher worried exclusively about her party’s chances in the upcoming mid-term elections. She uses the comet as a rallying cry and hatches a plan to nuke the comet in space.
But a tech billionaire tells her the comet is chockfull of rare earth minerals, diamonds, and gold. Tens of trillions worth of the stuff. Instead, the billionaire offers to use his geeks to split the 6-mile wide comet into smaller, manageable asteroids that his geniuses will guide to save splashdowns in navigable water for recovery. The comet’s payload promises to end poverty and suffering throughout the world.
As I said, the film was probably intended to be an allegory of people’s lack of concern about global warming. And the warmists will undoubtedly see it as such. But the rest of us, the 96 percent who don’t consider global warming a serious problem, will see the movie as an attack on Bill Gates, Dr. Fauci, and Pfizer.
“Don’t look up” becomes the mantra of President Orlean’s party once the comet becomes visible in the night sky. The scientists, who became famous in the early days of the crisis, use their platform to tell be not to trust the government.
The story is battle between actual science vs. fake science, honest inquiry vs. government and big business. Your brain will easily substitute Drs. Malone and McCullough for Dr. Mindy and Drs. Kelly Victory and Simone Gold for Kate. You won’t be able to miss the quirky but evil Peter Isherwell as Bill Gates.
If you have access, check out Don’t Look Up. You’ll cheer for the good guys and hiss the bad guys, both on the screen and the real-life persons they represent.
NASA, under a recent prior President, was looking to use technology to enable man to move the orbit of things in space. They told us an asteroid was headed for Earth in about 2030-35. Maybe they still are working on this?? Is truth stranger than fiction??
