David Brooks—the former conservative—skewered the University of Missouri St. Louis yesterday.  Brooks wasn’t aware, and UMSL administrators don’t read. But some of us caught it.

Brooks wrote of The Missing Fifth. Did you know that 20 percent of American men in their primes don’t work?

Americans should be especially alert to signs that the country is becoming less vital and industrious. One of those signs comes to us from the labor market. As my colleague David Leonhardt pointed out recently, in 1954, about 96 percent of American men between the ages of 25 and 54 worked. Today that number is around 80 percent. One-fifth of all men in their prime working ages are not getting up and going to work. [Emphasis added.]

How sad. How embarrassing. I’d say “how shameful” except the Supreme Court ruled shame unconstitutional, or so it seems. We’ve had that feeling, shame, removed from our souls.

Men who do nothing are deadbeats, much more so than people who try to pay their bills and can’t.  We’re talking about able-bodied men who simply choose to sit on their asses and sponge of others—off of foolish women, in many cases.

Brooks errs in his proposed solution, of course.  Brooks thinks American education the solution. He hasn’t been paying attention. I have some other ideas.

Higher education isn’t the solution to our problem; education is the problem.

The University of Missouri’s wing schools, UMKC and UMSL, offer the course “Introduction to Labor Studies.”  This course is why 20 percent of men believe that sitting on their brains is their right—nay, their duty—as young, able-bodied American men.

Leaving aside the communist party recruitment activity for a moment, UMSL’s Labor Studies course is a lesson in lying, lazy, and license.

In Labor Studies, professional derelicts Don Giljum and Nancy Ancel teach students how to avoid work, how to destroy a company’s profits, and how to harass and intimidate managers.

Think about this: the state of Missouri uses tax dollars to teach Missouri students how to rip off employers.  Knowing that, why would you hire someone who went to a public university in Missouri?  Why would you open an office or business in the state?  What could be more foolish than to expect Missouri to encourage business?

Here’s a solution.  It’s a tiny, tiny step, but it’s a step in the right direction: Shut down the damn Labor Studies course in the University of Missouri system.

An alternative solution if that’s too radical for our legislature: rename the course “Introduction to Deadbeat Studies.”

But do something before "Men at Work" becomes nothing more than a trivia question.

The University of Missouri St. Louis uses tax dollars to provide a recruiting station for the Communist Party USA—an organization whose purpose is to shred the United States Constitution.

UMSL Student Philip Christofanelli heroically chronicles the remarkable Marxist indoctrination known as “Introduction to Labor Studies” on BigGovernment.com.  I’ll give you a taste:

Prof. Giljum then introduced Tony Pecinovsky, a local organizer for the Communist Party, who proceeded to speak to us for two hours about the beliefs of the Communist Party and the benefits of membership.  That’s right–the Communist Party was allowed two hours of publicly subsidized class time to recruit. Thank you, Missouri taxpayers!

We’ve listened to the lies of UMSL and UMKC Provosts Glen Hahn and Gail Hackett for two weeks as they tried to defend the Marxist indoc camps they run with your money.

ENOUGH.

We’re read Tim Baker’s pack of lies in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Baker employed the subtle lie of “academic freedom,” treating that age-old communist tool as if it were on the tablets God gave Moses. (Read God and Man at Yale by William F. Buckley Jr. for more on academic freedom.)

ENOUGH.

We’ve listened to the whining lies of Don Giljum, the violent sabotage guru whose primary mission in the Labor Studies class seems to be destruction of the American economy.  The same Don Giljum who launched an unprovoked violent attack on Adam Sharp only to be coddled by UMSL Provost Glen Hahn who seized the evidence in the case.

ENOUGH!!!!

It’s time for Hahn, Hackett, and Ancel to resign or be fired.

It’s time the Missouri Legislature to stand up to communist indoctrination in the state university system. Where the hell are you, Steve Tilley?

It’s time to reform the U of M system or end public funding.

Judy Ancel is the University of Kansas City instructor responsible for teaching students to use violence, sabotage and intimidation as political tools. She’s telling the Kansas City Star that she’s receiving threats from people upset that she teaches students to threaten others.

I oppose violence, sabotage, and intimidation as political tools.  But Judy Ancel’s message of violence seems to have gotten through to some people.

Too bad Ancel doesn’t use her skills for good instead of evil.

Gail Hackett, UMKC Provost, released a deceitful, false, and irresponsible defense of UMKC instructors who encouraged students to use violence, sabotage, and intimidation to their way.

But Gail Hackett refuses to answer hard questions.

I have one question for the UMKC Provost:

Do you agree with Don Giljum’s statement “I believe in a violent overthrow of Bourgeois?” 

Before you answer, remember that Giljum’s use of the personal term “Bourgois” instead of the the class “bourguoisie” indicates that Giljim believes in violence against individual members of the middle class. 

In other words, Giljum – and by extension UMKC and UMSL – encourage students to violently attack middle class people.

Big news day in the advance of liberty in our battle against collectivists.

First, KMOX is reporting that an UMSL professor has resigned over the controversy.  For the life of me, I cannot find who the professor is. I thought that everyone involved was either an instructor or a guest lecturer.  If you know the answer to the riddle, please use the comment form.

Second, University of Kansas City refuses to accept responsibility for what goes on in its classroom.  Instead of admitting that it was wrong to allow a communist union leader teach that political violence is okay, they’ve blamed the messenger.  What’s new.

Third, responding to my request for their statement, Ameren UE has released the following:

“We are appalled by the comments of the former business manager of a union representing our workers and employees of other companies and by the actions he describes in his lecture.  If we ever had any evidence of sabotage at any of our facilities, we would have immediately notified law enforcement officials.

“ We do not know of any such sabotage but would immediately turn over to law enforcement anyone who threatens our operations in any way. We have a policy of protecting anyone reporting information about sabotage or other illegal actions and encourage anyone to come forward with information about this.

“We have full confidence in our employees and have in place extensive security training programs and procedures aimed at protecting our facilities, our employees and the public. [Emphasis mine.]

I hope the University of Missouri System, Governor Nixon, and the Missouri Legislature will follow Ameren’s lead by denouncing the content of this course and disassociating themselves from courses, lecturers, and employees that promote political violence and sabotage.

Finally, Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder has strongly condemned the content of the University of Missouri System class.  As a guest on Dana Loesch’s program on News Talk 97.1 FM today, Kinder promised that he will stay on this case until it’s resolved.

Please keep on top of your legislators.  Remember, we fought a 40-year Cold War to stop the evil of communism throughout the world.  We will not yield it a beachhead in America.
